Digital Biography

"We're all part of the same story, each of us different chapters. We may not choose setting or plot, but we can choose the kind of character we want to be."

― David Arnold, Kids of Appetite

If you're looking for a story with a single long chapter - a life spent in the same groove - you won't find it here.

What you will find though is a common narrative thread that binds together journalism, digital media, national broadcasting, education and social entrepreneurship that drives change. That common thread is storytelling.

As a sometime broadsheet national news paper, BBC and Channel 4 scriptwriter and producer and a senior lecturer in media and communications, my life has always been about tellings people's stories, or helping those people to tell their own.

It has been a move from the written to the visual story telling as our culture has - itself - moved from the spoken word to the moving image, whether news, web learning or the national sport of binge watching."

Somewhat unusually, for an educationalist - I've worked in Secondary, Tertiary (Higher Education) and Post Graduate (Masters) teaching, supervision and Senior Lecturing on both sides of the Atlantic, engaging students in digital media, broadcasting, and professional messaging from Bermondsey to Boston Massachusetts, and spanning ages from 11 to 55

Starting with the national ward of Lead Practitioner in Media from the UK's Specialist Schools & Academies Trust, and ending with the beginning of a new chapter as Doctoral Candidate of Education (Ed.D) - I'm passionate about education that changes lives and opens doorways.

I've sharpened my quill as a writer on topics as diverse as youth, media, culture and technology for the national broadsheet press including The Times, Sunday Times, The Evening Standard and The Financial Times, as well as the rock and fashion press of Billboard (US), The Face, iD, Sky, VOX, Blues & Soul, Smash Hits, Music Week and many others.

Inevitably this has expanded into scriptwriting, as a Series Writer for Channel 4, and soon after as a visual storyteller and Producer (line and O.B. For BBC Youth & Ents, Channel 4 and ITV breakfast schedules.

"Storytelling is the most powerful way to put ideas into the world."
